A new SBCA blog post from Greg Babinski, a GIS management consultant and founder of the GIS Management Academy™, examines a recently completed return-on-investment study of the City of Seattle's use of geographic information systems. The study applied Richard Zerbe's "with versus without" method — the same approach used in an earlier King County, Washington, GIS study — and found Seattle's GIS investment delivers an estimated annual net financial benefit of $126 million to $187 million, equivalent in value to hundreds of city staff positions. Babinski argues the study illustrates how benefit-cost analysis can serve not only to justify a project up front, but to measure whether it delivered on its projected benefits after the fact. Read more>>
